Are Video Games Bad For People?

Although games can cause problems in people, who are either have epilepsy or mental issues or people, who play for very long 2 hours + sessions, video games aren’t bad,as they can help to develop some skills, such as more developed thinking and problem solving in some games, simulate jobs and can also help to develop confidence in introverts.

Nowadays, gaming industry is huge, with lots of innovations, simulators, tournaments and online gaming with friends. There are driving wheels for racing games, which will contribute to an immersion and feel,VR(virtual reality) headsets, which are out of the world and also awesome gaming gear to help to win players. But does this awesome innovation harm us?A lot of parents and teachers don’t like video games,as they think that video games prevent the students from normal learning, and also contribute to low grades in school. In some cases it is true, however there are lots of students, who play a lot,but still get all A’s and 7’s.So what does it mean?Well there are 2 groups of students.First one is the group of students, who don’t care about studies and are just addicted to video games. The second one,is the group of people who balance studies with games and are successful. So the key,is that people shouldn’t play for long sessions of 2+ hours. This may affect their thinking, also get them addicted to games. There is one terrible case, when a teen from Russia, who was addicted to a game called “Defence of the Ancients”,had a 22 day session, and after that he died, because of thrombosis syndrome. This case shows, that the parents should control their kids’ amount of time spent in the virtual world. However there are also lots of good things in video games, which may overweigh the bad things,if played for a reasonable amount of time.

There are plenty of strategy games like Total War,Clash of Clans and Starcraft. These are actually one of the most useful games,as they require a lot of thinking, due to their nature. There was a case study where “72 volunteers play 2 different games for 40 hours over the time of 8 weeks, and one of them was the Starcraft. The results showed, that the students after playing this game had better cognitive flexibility”,which helps our brains to process lots of information simultaneously. Also there are the action games.”These games help at decision making Action video games are fast-paced, and there are peripheral images and events popping up, and disappearing. These video games are teaching people to become better at taking sensory data in, and translating it into correct decisions.”

Also video games, help the new workers. Two of the most relevant examples are aircraft simulator and surgeon simulator. This can really help new pilots or surgeons,to put their knowledge to the test, without risking anyone’s life, and also with an opportunity to retry the test,or perfect their skills. So simulators are really good trainers. There are also car simulators and many more...People can also even make astronaut simulators. Our current technologies as mentioned earlier, are really advanced, and a lot of companies and people make awesome simulations. To summarise the simulators can help people to try out the job,or train.

Introverts. What do we know about them? There aren’t really sociable, shy and closed people.Well video games can help.As seen in the gaming community people are very sociable. There are thousands of games, there are streams,YouTube videos and also teams. And actually introverts feel much more comfortable in this environment. They talk with people in game chat, make connections, assemble teams and are much more sociably engaged. It is very good. This can also translate in real life interactions.”Researchers from three different institutions in the UK and Canada recently did their own studies to find out how common antisocial behaviour is among gamers. What each one discovered,is that gamers who partake in live social environments are actually the most friendly and communicative people there. While observing gamers he even went on to admit that they formed stronger relationships than non-gamers due to their matching love of games.”

The conclusion,is that games are not bad for people. They are only bad if played for exceedingly long sessions, and also if played a lot each day.So the point here, people should play a bit everyday around an hour per day,2 hours at max. With this graphic, players will not only benefit from games, but will also have all the normal real world attributes, skills and will have a normal happy life.

Daydreaming and Stuff

In this essay I compare 2 texts:”Maggot Moon” and a “Daydreaming” poem.
“Maggot Moon”,written by Sally Gardner,is a book about Standish Treadwell,a teenager, living in an alternate 1950’s Britain, where the Motherland is a Nazi like government which wants to launch the first rocket to the moon, however there is something more to it and Standish discovers it...And it is big.The poem on the other hand is written by Laurena Pamela Willetts, and it is just about her dreaming about an exotic quiet place, where is calm and silent, where she forgets about stress and busy life.

Both texts share the idea that some people don’t like the world they are living in, and want to be lost in an imaginary world,in a daydream. For example in “Maggot Moon”,Standish constantly lives in a terrible country. When he is in school class he is not listening to the teacher who doesn’t like him. Gardener shows us that his teacher doesn’t like Standish when he says, “ Mr, Gunnell didn’t like me.” We also see that Standish is not comfortable in his world when he says, ”I wasn’t listening to the lesson when the note arrived from the headmaster’s office.” The fact that he is not listening, shows that he wants to be anywhere but school. He would prefer to be, “in the city across the water, in another country where buildings don’t stop rising until they pen the clouds of the sky.” He uses his daydreams to escape his world. He would prefer to be, “where the sun shines in Technicolor.” In his real world he is considered stupid, other teenagers bully him,the government is ruthless and constantly thinking that Standish with his grandfather are hiding an astronaut. In the poem, the speaker thinks the everyday life is busy, crowded and noisy. For her daydreaming is sort of relaxation from real life. She doesn’t really like her busy and noisy life.“Maybe I’m wrong and its city bound dusty, noisy plagued with sound, overcrowded, busy teeming with life, all seeking to bring stress and strife”

I think that these are the differences in the these texts-in “Maggot Moon”,
Daydreaming is sort of necessary,as Standish lives in a world, where he lost his parents-”Mum and Dad were gone”,friends-”But this was the best daydream I’d had since Hector and his family vanished”, and where almost everyone doesn’t like him except his grandfather and his friends. Also Standish has lots of problems, such as,that he was expelled from school,or bullied by the other teenagers. In the poem, however, the speaker neither really have any problems, neither the world she lives in is terrible. For her daydreaming is a relaxation from the busy and noisy modern life. She just dreams about “Some faraway place exotic in flavour, some distant shores whose spices we savour, silvery beaches with white capped waves lapping, tall upright palms bowing and swaying”

In conclusion. These 2 texts show, that daydreaming is sometimes very important, especially in case of Standish in “Maggot Moon”.In “Maggot Moon” Standish is constantly facing problems, from other teenagers and government,so for him daydreaming is essential,as his world is very bad.As for standard people with a normal life, like the woman in the poem, daydreaming sometimes helps to get rid of stress or forget about problems.

Teens Spending Too Many Hours On Social Media

Today,a lot of parents are concerned about their kids, spending most of their time on social media and video games. They think, that it is a complete waste of time, which distracts them from school and a normal life.Parents think, that their kids could spend this time on education and real world experience. However the kids don’t agree with that. They say it is a lot of fun playing video games with their friends and also reading jokes, texting and watching videos and photos on social media. In these days internet is a big concern for parents and the community

Kids from age of 8 to 18 on average spend 44.5 hours a week.

Nearly 23% of youth report that they feel “addicted to video games” (31% of males, 13% of females.) These are the results of a new study of 1,178 U.S. children and teens (ages 8 to 18) conducted by Harris Interactive (2007) that documents a national prevalence rate of pathological video game use. However, that is only about gaming.

If teens are, on average, spending nine hours a day consuming media, it's not such a surprise they're often doing it while doing their homework. Half of teens say they "often" or "sometimes" use social media or watch TV while doing their homework. Some 60% say they text and more than 75% say they listen to music while working on schoolwork at home.

More than 50% of teens say, that multitasking doesn’t affect their quality of work.

"Teenagers think that multitasking during homework doesn't affect their ability to learn and ... we know it does," said Steyer, citing studies such as one in Stanford, which found dramatic differences in cognitive control and the ability to process information between heavy media multitaskers and light media multitaskers.

"It's completely obvious that you can't multitask and be as effective and competent."

Also the study shows, that boys are more about gaming and the girls are more about social media. On average girls spend 40-50 more minutes than boys on social media. It is clear that girls use techonology more sociably than boys and the boys spend their time on video games.

I think parents and their kids should set a specific amount of hours or minutes per day.It would be much better if kids spent around 2 hours a day. This will lead to more face to face conversations and real life experience.
